Current Opportunities

Asphalt Roller Operator – Full-Time Seasonal

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the asphalt roller, including maintenance
  • Work as part of a team under supervision of the Paving Foreman and/or Paving Superintendent
  • Complete daily inspections of the paver and complete daily equipment checklist
  • Other duties as required

Required Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, Education and Experience:

  • Previous asphalt/grade roller operation would be considered an asset
  • Successful completion of the NSRBA Asphalt Laydown Technician Program would be considered an asset
  • Valid Class 5 NS drivers’ license
  • Mechanical aptitude – knowledge of operation, maintenance & basic repairs of asphalt roller
  • Must be willing to travel within Northeastern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton

Concrete Finisher - Full Time Seasonal

Responsibilities:

  • To work as part of a team under supervision of the crew foreman &/or superintendent,
  • Check formwork, granular base and steel reinforcement,
  • Direct placement of concrete into forms or onto surfaces as required,
  • Fill hollows and remove high spots to smooth freshly placed concrete,
  • Use power vibrator to compact concrete,
  • Level top surface of concrete according to grade and depth specifications using straightedge or float,
  • Apply desired finish to concrete surfaces using hand and power tools,
  • Apply hardening & sealing compounds to cure surface of concrete,
  • Waterproof, dampproof and restore concrete surfaces,
  • General maintenance of equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Class 5 NS driver’s license,
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision,
  • Experience in formwork & grade-work would be considered an asset,
  • Must be willing to travel within Northern and Eastern Nova Scotia.

Responsibilities:

  • To work as part of a team under supervision of the crew foreman &/or superintendent to operate an excavator and other miscellaneous duties as required,
  • Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner,

Skilled Labourer (Asphalt) - Full Time Seasonal

Responsibilities:

  • To work as part of a team under supervision of the crew foreman &/or superintendent,
  • Rake asphalt, properly construct asphalt joints,
  • Direct placement of asphalt for patching & paving operations,
  • Fill hollows and remove high spots to smooth freshly placed asphalt,
  • Set-up & operate asphalt screed to place asphalt to grade and depth specifications,
  • General maintenance of equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Class 5 NS driver’s license,

Temporary Workplace Signer - Full Time Seasonal

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To set-up, maintain and remove temporary traffic control devices as per the NSTWTC Manual or approved plans,
  • Supervise traffic control personnel,
  • Communicate and coordinate site activities with foreman,
  • Other duties as required.

Required Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in traffic control (related to highway construction, preferably),
  • Valid NS TWS Certification,
  • Valid Class 5 NS drivers’ license,
  • Must be willing to travel within Northern and Eastern Nova Scotia,
  • Experience signing on 100 series highways considered an asset,
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision,
  • Ability to adapt to changing site conditions quickly.

Truck Dispatch - Full Time Seasonal

Responsibilities:

  • Daily dispatch of all trucks (company and private)
  • Organize trucks for jobs as required.
  • Ensure drivers are provided with the appropriate documentation/customer information/directions/special instructions.
  • Receive and respond to calls, text messages and emails from supervisors, foremen and drivers with respect to trucking requirements.
  • Outsourcing and recruiting of private trucks when required
  • Ensure company drivers are adhering to hours-of-service regulations
  • Order any necessary over-weight and/ or over-dimensional permits
  • Schedule regular maintenance and safety inspections on company trucks with drivers and shop

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years experience in a dispatch role
  • Must have a valid NS driver’s license.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A working knowledge of MS Office software, MS Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing situations
  • Ability to prioritize and organize
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and Saturdays as required.
