Responsibilities: 

  • Maintenance and preventative maintenance of company fleet to ensure efficient operation
  • Inspect, diagnose, and conduct repairs of company fleet
  • Follow and practice workplace health and safety regulations and ensure proper disposal of hazardous waste

 Qualifications: 

  • Red Seal Interprovincial Certification is an asset

Traffic Control Person (TCP) - Casual Seasonal

Responsibilities: 

  • To work as part of a team under supervision of the crew foreman &/or temporary workplace signer to perform TCP duties as required
  • To direct traffic safely through temporary workplace
  • To ensure the safety of the workers and the motoring public

Qualifications:

  • A valid NS TCP certification

Temporary Workplace Signer - Full Time Seasonal

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To set-up, maintain and remove temporary traffic control devices as per the NSTWTC Manual or approved plans
  • Supervise traffic control personnel
  • Communicate and coordinate site activities with foreman
  • Other duties as required

Required Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in traffic control (related to highway construction, preferably)
  • Valid NS TWS Certification
  • Valid Class 5 NS drivers license
  • Must be willing to travel within Northern and Eastern Nova Scotia
  • Experience signing on 100 series highways considered an asset
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

Heavy Equipment Operator - Full Time Seasonal

Responsibilities: 

  • To work as part of a team under supervision of the crew foreman &/or superintendent to operate either an excavator or a loader and other miscellaneous duties as required
  • Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • General maintenance of equipment

 Qualifications: 

  • Experience with pipework, groundwork, earthmoving and ditching
  • Experience in the operation of equipment in a high traffic environment
  • Knowledge of equipment operation, cleaning & maintenance requirements

Construction Foreman (Pipe) - Full Time

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the municipal pipe crew, including maintenance, and health & safety
  • Lead and motivate the pipe crew
  • Manage staff scheduling and liaison with Temporary Workplace Signer
  • Work with the Municipal Construction Superintendent and Project Manager to implement schedules
  • Coordinate the purchase of materials and supplies and ordering of trucks
  • Communicate regularly with subcontractors and customers
  • Manage repairs and maintenance of machinery
  • Site Observations – constant and consistent equipment monitoring and inspecting while other tasks are being completed
  • Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Inspection Logs, Toolbox Talks, Daily Timecards and Accomplishment Reports
  • Other duties as required

Required Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in municipal construction (related to municipal pipe work, preferably)
  • Valid Class 5 NS driver’s license
  • Proven leadership abilities
  • Mechanical aptitude – knowledge of operation, maintenance & basic repairs of excavation & pipe laying equipment
  • Hands on management style
  • Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions for self and others; be able to establish a safe work environment
  • Knowledge of training practices sufficient to be able to provide training to others
  • Knowledge of maintenance practices and procedures sufficient to be able to assist in developing and maintaining programs for preventive maintenance
  • Computer skill proficiency an asset
  • Skill in interpreting and applying written guidelines, precedents, and work practices to standardized work situations or specific cases
  • Able to create alternative solutions to problems
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Skill in utilizing a wide variety of equipment for which it is intended
  • Must be willing to travel within Northern and Eastern Nova Scotia

Concrete Finisher - Full Time Seasonal

Responsibilities: 

  • To work as part of a team under supervision of the crew foreman &/or superintendent
  • Check formwork, granular base and steel reinforcement
  • Direct placement of concrete into forms or onto surfaces as required
  • Fill hollows and remove high spots to smooth freshly placed concrete
  • Use power vibrator to compact concrete
  • Level top surface of concrete according to grade and depth specifications using straightedge or float
  • Apply desired finish to concrete surfaces using hand and power tools
  • Apply hardening & sealing compounds to cure surface of concrete
  • Waterproof, dampproof and restore concrete surfaces
  • General maintenance of equipment

 Qualifications:

  • Valid Class 5 NS driver's license
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Experience in formwork & grade-work would be considered an asset
  • Must be willing to travel within Northern and Eastern Nova Scotia

Class 1 Truck Driver - Full Time Seasonal

Responsibilities: 

  • To pick up & deliver aggregates and asphalt to government and private construction sites in Northern and Eastern Nova Scotia on time
  • To transport heavy equipment between construction sites may be required
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment and a clean driving abstract
  • Perform all work assigned by foreman &/or supervisor
  • Provide excellent customer service with a high level of professionalism
  • General maintenance of equipment

Qualifications: 

  • Valid Class 1 NS driver’s license with air brake endorsement is required
  • End dump, belly dump &/or live bottom experience preferred
  • Experience transporting heaving equipment considered an asset
  • Minimum of 3 years driving experience with commercial vehicles
  • Clean driving abstract (to be provided)
  • Must be willing to travel within Northern and Eastern Nova Scotia
  • Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills an asset
